Truth Be Told: “Behind the Set”

Al Jarreau

Al Jarreau is pleasant, easy going, and as animated as one will bear witness to when you watch our interview. He generated so much of a good time, as well as an exorbitant amount of fun, from the minute he walked onto the set until the time he left.

There are those artists who – upon finishing their evening performance – wish to do the least amount of socializing and/or publicity, opting to go about with their own agenda. Al couldn’t have been more agreeable to whatever we requested.

As you will see at the beginning of our segment, he was very complimentary, and his quote follows: “Your program here… I don’t know anyone who is doing anything like this.”

If you love Jazz, I trust you will find our conversation immensely interesting.

Lastly, for the end of the segment, I thought I would ask Al to sing a portion of the song “Route 66” as he does on his CD “Yes I Can”. He does it a’ cappella style. Truth be told, not only did he sing a portion, but when one of the cameramen cued us, letting us know that was all of the song needed for the credit roll, Al and I were having such a great time (he sang while I was drumming on the table next to me), we kept going until the end of the tune. At the end of the jam, Al and I just crack up. Not a second of any of that was planned.

I've done over 1,000 interviews, this one was the best. - David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash

Lich you're a great interviewer and you have all your facts right. I was absolutely impressed. I feel like you've known me all my life! - Steve Miller

Lich, it's always a pleasure. You always ask the right questions. - James Pankow, trombonist and one of the original members of Chicago

Lich really believes in what he is doing. That's just refreshing. When you sit down with him and go WOW…we don't get to do this very often and get intelligent questions. - Jonathan Cain of Journey

I love this! Lich, I'll sit down with you anytime for more, that's for sure. - Brett Michaels of Poison

Where did you get your information from? How did you find this stuff out about me…and your questions…no one has ever asked me questions like this before, ever. - Michael McDonald

Man, you did your homework. Great questions. I loved doing this. - Chick Corea

Great interview…beyond anyone I've ever done before. - Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon

This has been an interview like nothing I've ever done in the past. How did you know about the bands I fancied playing with in my past? I hope at some point my mates in the Stones talked to you as well. They'd be keen on doing this. - Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones
